Flying into Beijing and hoping to use this 144 hour rule. Will it apply to me?

Hi,
I have Irish passport. Hoping to get a train (on the 5th day) from BJ to Hong Kong then from Hong Kong fly to Tokyo. Do I have to be out of the country on the 6th day or can I still be on my travels? I know they train takes a while. Thanks. :)

You have to leave the country on the 6th, and in your case, you are suggested to apply for a visa.

Thanks. Sorry, not really understanding if the 144 hour visa applied to me... London to BJ, (stay less than 144 hours), bj to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Tokyo then back to London..

Your case applies to the 144h visa waiver. Don't worry! And the 144 hours are counted from 00:00 of the next day of your arrival. For example, if you arrive at 9:00am on Mar. 7, the 144h starts to be counted from 00:00 on Mar. 8. So it is ok for you to leave on the 5th day.
