About:China Visa Application Procedure and Fee

Are passports needed for visa applications or is it okay to just supply passport photos?

Our travel agent wants our actual passports to send off to the Chinese Consulate, along with the applications. I'm not happy to be without my passport for any time, in case I need it. Would a photocopy of the Application Form, filled in by us with an affixed colour passport photo, be okay?

Usually, the original passport would be needed when applying for the visa. So you need to provide the actual passport for that.
