About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Can I still get the 72-Hour Free Transit without a visa to Thailand?

I'm flying from LA to Thailand, but have a 34 hour layover in Guangzhou. It says one of the requirements to apply for the 72-hour transit is a visa for a third country or region. However, since I'm only visiting Thailand for less than 30 days, I don't require entry permit for Thailand. Can I still get the 72-hour transit to show or would I need to get a Thai visa specifically to apply for the 72-hour transit?

You don't need a Thai visa to apply. Immigration is not responsible for non-Chinese document checks, only the airline is.

No, you are fine. The third country or region (i.e. Thailand or Hong Kong) they speak of is something they want to see to make sure you have a way out within the 72 hours. You apply for the 72 hour Visa in China after you arrive in the airport.
