About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Entry denied

Had a stopover in Shanghai for 24 hours, going from Philippines - Shanghai - US. At time of arrival we were denied entry. We hold Mexico passports and should be able to use this visa free entry. I asked to speak to a supervisor to get an explanation. The customs agent refused to get me a supervisor and kept repeating to me "policy change" as his reason for denying me entry.
This happened Feb 23, 2018. Has there been any such change?

Since February, Shanghai no longer allows people with layovers for less than 24 hours to clear immigration regardless of nationality. In some cases, however, people were let in when they showed their hotel booking confirmations.

Wow this is interesting and a little concerning. We're looking to do TWOV in Shanghai this summer. Have you done the TWOV in the past or this your fist time trying to use the transit permit?

Does anyone know where to read up on this new policy?

Denied as in deported back to where you started? Or just have to stay in the airport?

Hi, maybe you can check the information from Timatic, an IATA database which airlines use.
