About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

transit visa at Shanghai airport for a Philippine passport holder

Hi,

I am a Philippine passport holder flying from Toronto to Shanghai. I have a 24-hour layover in Shanghai until I fly to Manila.

Can I apply for a transit G at the Shanghai airport upon my arrival, so I can temporarily leave the airport to stay at a hotel while waiting for my flight to Manila?

Thanks a lot!!!

That depends on your layover time. You need a visa if your scheduled layover is even a minute longer than the 24-hour mark.

If it's no longer than 24 hours, you can apply for the 24 hr free transit at Shanghai airport. You need to show the tickets and passports at the immigration counter upon arrival. No transit G type is needed then.
