I hold Canadian passport, have a long layover in Beijing, I do qualify for the 72 hours China Visa

however, do I need to have booked a tour in advance in order for me to get the free transit at the airport? I do prefer to do my own walkabout tour without committing to a tour group. Please help. Thanks
