About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Boarding pass or ticket confirmation email?

I'm traveling through Shanghai (36 hour layover), on a joint ticket--the first leg is US airways from Bangkok, and the second is American Airlines to Denver. As i have to switch airlines, i most likely won't have the boarding pass for the second flight when i land in Shanghai. HOWEVER, i will have the ticket confirmation e-mail with seat number, etc.

Is that sufficient proof of the 'ticket and seat onward' to qualify for the 144 transit visa?

Yes, you don't need the boarding pass. Just print the ticket.
