About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I have a flight from Paris to Kathmandu with transit in Chengdu.

I'm planning to get a Nepal visa only upon arrival at Kathmandu.

Can I get the -free Transit without having my visa for Nepal in advance?

If I'd stay within the airport during the transit, do I still need to get the free Transit?
