About:China Visa

We are going on Grand Asia cruise with disembarkation in Shanghai

and will stay in Shanghai for 2 days tour then off to Beijing for another 2 days tour then fly back to US the next day. My question is are we able to do this under the 144 hour Free transit in China, therefore we don't need to apply for a visa? Please advise. Thank you! Will appreciate your answer.

No, you won’t qualify for the 144 hour free transit because you will stop in both Shanghai and Beijing. You need to apply for a tourist L type for that.
