Visit to Nanjing from Shanghai permitted during 144 hours?

US citizen/passport. I plan to fly to Shanghai, stay for one day, visit friends in Nanjing for four days, then fly Shanghai to Macau. then back to the USA. Will I be able to use the 144 hour free transit?
