About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I'm traveling to Hk with my sisters and will stay there for 4 days.

We have a return flight, hotel Booking . Our trip will be in march. My passport expires in september 2018. Is it a problem if I dont renew it before our trip? Or am I required to renew it now.

We also plan to go to Macau for a day trip. Is my passport also valid there?

My sister went to the Chinese embassy in Manila to verify and she is being asked to renew the passport even if the expiration is in September. They said it is the protocol of DFA. I'm stressing out coz the flight to Hong Kong is on March 15th.
