About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Double transit in China

Hi, we are from the Netherlands and flying home from Melbourne via Beijing and Guangzhou. We will not stay longer than 72 hours in china. However because we have two stops, does it still allow us to use the 72 hours free transit visa?

Regards, wendie

No. Transit including multiple stops within China is permitted at Guangzhou (CAN) only when the first transit point is Beijing (PEK). The total maximum transit time is 24 hours.

Hi rob, so because we land in Guangzhou first, we cannot use the 72 hour free transit. Though we will not stay more than 24 hours in china and will not leave the airport. Do we require a visa then?
Sorry want to double check as there is quite some time and money involved...

I would contact your airline first. China Southern are certainly aware of the issue. It may be possible to rebook on another itinerary.
