About:Shanghai East Nanjing Road

I intend to fly on a ticket from Syd - shanghai - Syd and have visa for entry.

After few days in Shanghai then intend to fly on seperate ticket Shanghai - Japan - Shanghai.
As my visa will not then be valid, can I use 144 hour free transit to re-enter to stop in Shanghai before returning to Sydney few days later?
