About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

area allowed to stay

I am flying from Yangon, Myanmar to Los Angeles and will utilize the 72 hours transit in Kunming.
I read the information from your site "Passengers transiting in Chongqing,.. Kunming,..cannot leave the transit city." , so wondering if I can have a trip to the Dongchuan red land (still kunming, but not IN the city) and stay overnight there ? Thank you !

As long as it's inside the city's administrative boundaries you will be OK. Doesn't have to be downtown of the city.
