About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will I need a L visa?

We are New Zealand passport holders with work visas in Japan and currently reside in Japan.
We will be flying to Shanghai and spending 5 days in Shanghai. We will be flying from New Zealand to Shanghai then back to Japan. Will we need to apply for a L type or will the 144hr free transit apply? Thank you.

The free transit will cover your trip. However you can also apply for a visa if you want to save time at immigration.
