About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stopping in Tianjin and Shanghai

Hi there, our cruise ship will be stopping in Tianjin for 3 days, followed by one night at sea, stopping for a technical call in South Korea, then ending the cruise in Shanghai where we will head to the international airport to fly home to Australia. Will this trip be covered under one or 2 separate visa-free transits? Thank you.

If your travel route is country A instead of Korea – Tianjin – South Korea-Shanghai-Australia, you can use the free transit in both Tianjin and Shanghai.

Hi Alec, can you please clarify what you meant by “country A instead of Korea”? Our ship will be arriving at Tianjin from South Korea, stopping for 3 days in Tianjin, then leaving China waters to stop in South Korea briefly before we arrive in Shanghai for disembarking. So, does that mean we can still use the visa free transit?

If you travel Korea-China-Korea then you're not in transit, therefore you don't qualify for free transit. You need a visa.
