cruise transfers

We are going on a cruise from Shanghai to Japan , we planned to arrive a day early for safety and thern after the cruise spend 3 days in Shanghai. Can we do this with out a visa?

If the travel route is like country A (not Japan)- Shanghai – Japan, you can use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. And then you don’t need to apply for a transit G type.
