72 hours in Guangzhou on the way to HK

Danish citizen planning a stopover in CAN for 72 hours on the way to H.K.
Comming by from Denmark by plane and leaving for Hong Kong by plane.

Have anything regarding the 72 stopover rule changed recently? And will the above travelplan be possible without a Chinese visa?

As long as your layover is over 8 hours immigration will usually let you out.
