Why does the dinner for News Years eve called family reunion dinner?

Is it really true because its the important dinner of the year and for families to be together on this day?Is this really true?

Yes, it is true. China is very large. People who work in far provinces may not go back home until the spring festival because of the long distance Therefore, they call the dinner for family reunion.
