Can you climb Mt. Huashan on Christmas Day?

Hi

I am wondering if one is able to trek the mountain (including the plank walk) on Christmas Day.

Also, I am currently staying in Wuxi, Jiangsu, and need to get some equipment (coat, rucksack etc). Could you recommend any good retailers in China that would sell such equipment?

Finally, do you know of any reasonable hotels to stay in Xian before climbing, or is it better to stay in Huayin City?

Thank you for your time.

Paul

Yes, you can climb the mountain on that day.
For the equipments, you are suggested to some shopping centers to get them, like Parkson Shopping Center in 127 Middle Renmin Rd, Dadongfang Shopping Mall in 343 Zhongshan Rd and Huijin Square in 188 Zhongshan Rd.
As for hotels, you can stay in the scenic area, which is the choice of most visitors. Hotels like Dongfeng Hotel, Five Cloud Peak Hotel are good.

Thanks for the reply. If you would be so kind to read my travel plan and answer my further queries below, I would be very grateful.

My plan is. on the 23/12, to take the train from Wuxi at 12:13 to Xian North arriving at 19:09 (2nd class, seated, 7hrs). Then go to Huashan North, and on the same night, make my way to the mountain by the green mini bus and begin climbing to reach the sunrise on the East peak.

After seeing the Sunrise, I thought rather than see all the other places such as the plank walk, I would stay a night at the Five Peak hotel.

Then the next day, the 25th, see all the other places such as the plank walk, make my way down the mountain (via cable car) and get a train form Xian to Jiangsu.

I am 37 years old, not fat and relatively fit.

Do you think it would be very busy on the 24th and 25th?

Would I be able to get a minibus from Huashan North after 21:00 to the mountain? Do you know what time they run until?

Do you think it is a good idea to start the mountain climb on the same night after a seven-hour train journey?

Then on the 25th, after seeing all the other places on the mountain, would I be able to make it back down, get to the Xian North, then begin my journey back to Jiangsu on the train?

Thanks in advance if anyone reads this and answers these questions.

Well, first of all, I don’t think it’s a good idea to climb the mountain right after your train journey. You can have a rest at Five Cloud Peak Hotel and get up early to the East Peak. As I know, most visitors would like to set out around 4:00am from the hotel.

No bus is available after 21:00, and you can take a taxi to the scenic area. It costs around CNY20-30. Oh, the last bus leaves at 18:30.

As for back, don’t worry. You can take the bus to North Huashan Station and then back to Xian. Then, catch a bus to Jiangsu.

Ok thanks.

I'm a bit confused however.

If I get to the foot of the mountain say around 21:30, how do I then get to the East Peak hotel for a rest? Do I have to climb for four hours?

You can book the hotel from Elong in advance. As for climbing, yes, you need to climb for about 4h to get to the Five Cloud Peak Hotel.
