About:China Visa Exemption

on a transit. Do I need a visa for a 4 hour transit?

I am travelling to Malaysia Via China (Guangzhou) from Canada. I am travelling with a Malaysian passport.

Yes, you need to apply for it in advance for the transit in mainland China.
