Stop over in Beijing for 10 hours

Hi
We are travelling to Auckland soon, and have a 10 hours stop over before our next flight at BJ, are we allowed to leave the airport during this time ?

Yes, it is ok to leave the airport. Actually you are eligible for the 24h visa-free transit policy. After getting to the airport, you need to apply for a stay permit at the immigration counter.
