About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US Citizen Transit 72hrs

I plan on traveling to Beijing from the US after 12/26/17. I will like to stay in Beijing for two days before leaving from Beijing airport to go to Bangkok on 12/28/17. Will the 72 hour free transit work fine since I'll be in China for a short stay?
