About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Need to go to Shanghai for a day

I am a US citizen, flying from the Philippines to Shanghai to HK (stay 3 days) and then back to the Philippines. Is the 72 Hour free transit applicable to me? My flight to Shanghai has a 1 hour stopover in HK (but I wont exit the HK airport).

You can't because that's not transit.
