About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Xian Layover and the 144hr Visa

I plan to visit Shanghai from Hong Kong and then onward to Japan on a multi-city one way ticket. The airline I want to fly, Xian Airways, has an 18hr layover in Xian overnight. How will this this my 144hr free transit? Do I stay in the airport or will this cause problems with the visa rules? Their flights are cheaper than China Eastern.

That means you cannot use 144-hr visa-free transit in Shanghai. Shanghai must be your only stop in Mainland China if you want to use it.
