Am I elgible for the transit free visa if my flight originated in Hong Kong?

I'll be taking a flight from Hong Kong and will hopefully stay in Beijing for the seventy-two hour period before travelling to Korea. Can I apply for the free transit if my flight originated in Hong Kong?
