transit visa g for an american citizen stopping over in guangzhou

Hi, I'm an American Citizen stopping over in Guangzhou for 14 hours on my way to India. I want to leave the airport, I believe I am able to. But my boyfriend is an Indian Citizen who lives in the USA. For him to leave the airport for 8-10 hours would he need to apply for a Visa?Thanks in advance!

Neither of you will be able to leave the airport since Guangzhou no longer allows persons with layovers for less than 24 hours to clear immigration. If you want to leave the airport then you'll need a transit visa in advance.
