About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

New Zealand shanghai England

My travel agent is a bit shakey about the 144 hr twov stopover . Says not available to Uk passport holders. Only 72 hour and this at disgression of carrier (Emirates) and Chinese control. Looking at a Shanghai to stopover. Is it Shanghai only? Is Souchou and Hangzhou allowed. Might do Beijing if available by next June. How firm is it Beijing being a twov

Get a better travel agent, because your current one is incompetent. Of course UK passport holders qualify, and Shanghai only has 24 and 144 hours visa-free transit (not 72 hours). Travellers are allowed to move between Shanghai Municipality, Jiangsu Province and Zhejiang Province (which includes Souzhou and Hangzhou). Beijing is currently limited to 72 hours.

Your agent must be reading an outdated version of Timatic which (due to the errs of editors) left out the provisions for British citizens. Plenty of Brits had trouble at the airport when it was first implemented and the ground staff had to call Shanghai Immigration to confirm one by one.

Thanks both for your prompt response. I tried a different travel agent today. They were equally unsure but did however go to the foriegn office website. which confirms what both of you have said. Thanks again
