What visa do I need for visiting my sister in China and touring China on my own after visiting her?

I plan to visit my sister in Guangzhou and then visit other parts of China on my own after that. I will first go to Guangzhou by air travel and leave China via Shenzhen as I plan to visit Hong Kong. Do I apply for tourist L? My flight tickets will be entry into Guangzhou and leave via Hong Kong. Will that be sufficient as documentary proofs for the application?
