About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

London - Shanghai - Philippines - Shanghai - London

I am flying from London - Shanghai - Philippines - Shanghai. I have a return flight booked London to Shanghai and then flights booked to Philippines and back to Shanghai in between these dates... Will I need an entry permit or do I qualify for VOA? I can prove I have the onward travel to a third country, but I don't know how they view separate flight tickets?

Separate tickets are fine. You don't need a visa for 144 hrs in Shanghai in each direction, assuming non-stop flights and a qualifying passport. By the way, it's not a visa on arrival, which is something completely different (and you don't qualify for it). So when you check-in it's best to refer to "transit without visa", not "visa on arrival".
