About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Germany - China - Japan, Valid Visa

I will be travelling to Beijing in January holding a valid entry permit to China. However, I do not want to use said visa, but apply for a free entry and leave China for Japan within 72 hours. Is it possible to make that trip without using my valid entry permit? (I am planning to use it at a later point in time)

Yes. Make it clear to the immigration officer so that he does not cancel your visa.
