When would the earliest X1 entry date be if my JW202's deadline for registration is 20 January?

School said they will help with residence permit late Jan. Does this mean I couldn't come before 25 December?

Hi, if you already get the X1 type, you can enter mainland China at any time before its entry date. So you can enter the country at present. Don't worry!
