Obtain visa in Hong Kong

I have heard that one has to be a Hong Kong Resident in order to obtain a Chinese visa in Hong Kong. Is this true?

Which means that as a Canadian passport holder, I would have to be in Canada to obtain an entry permit? Or are other consulates in Asia more flexible?

Hi, usually, it is rather difficult for non-resident applicants to get Chinese visa from some foreign countries instead of his/her home country. But maybe you can make the application from HK as long as you have valid entry record in HK. If it can be done, you don't need to go back to Canada to do that. Good luck!
