About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 Hour Free Transit in Guangzhou

I am flying from Vancouver to Phnom Pehn with, if I qualify for the Free Transit , a stop in Guangzhou on the way.
Does my flight from Vancouver to Guangzhou have to be direct in order to get the 72 hour free transit or can I book a flight with a brief layover in some other Chinese city?
Also, if a flight with a layover qualifies me for the Guangzhou transit visa, would I need to remain in the airport for the duration of the layover or would it be possible, if the layover is long enough, to leave the airport and go into whichever layover city ?

Paul, you cannot have a brief layover in some other Chinese cities if you want to use the 72 hr free transit in Guangzhou. Qualified passengers transiting in Guangzhou are not able to leave the sterile transit zone if their transit time is under 24 hours. But if you will travel like Vancouver-Guangzhou(72 hours)-Phnom Pehn, you can leave the airport without applying for a visa.

Travelling, Vancouver - Guangzhou - Phnom Penh
Must my flight from Vancouver must be DIRECT to Guangzhou to qualify for the 72 hour free transit?

Or can a flight with plane change in China qualify if I stay in the sterile transit zone?
ie Would
Vancouver - (plane change Shanghai)- Guangzhou -Phnom Pehn allow the 72 hour Transit in Guangzhou if I do not leave the Sterile transit zone in Shanghai?

When you wanna use the 72h twov, just 1 stop within China is allowed. So you cannot use the 72 hr free transit for the trip Vancouver-(plane change Shanghai)-Guangzhou-Phnom Pehn, even if you don't leave the Sterile transit zone in Shanghai.
