About:China Visa Exemption

Does the 72-hour Visa-free transit apply to visitors from cruise lines?

I am Canadian and my wife is British. We will be visiting Xiamen and Shanghai on a cruise that starts in Tokyo. Can we enjoy the 72-hour Visa-free transit privilege as airline passengers do?
