What type of documents are needed to enter Xinjiang?
Is it possible to travel there independently?

No, no documents are needed to the most part of the province. But some places, like Baihaba Village, Kanas Lake, and Taxkorgan County, need a border permit, which you can get when getting there. Of course you can go there by yourself.0
