one-day stopover in beijing

Question

I'll be flying to Asia with a 10-hour stopover in the city both ways, on 8 Dec and back 31 Dec. What can I feasibly do on a day visit?

You can spend some time on Tiananmen Square and Qianmen Pedestrian Street on the first 10h layover. For return trip, you can see the Bird Nest and Water Cube from outside, then wander around the Wangfujing Pedestrian Street. If you prefer, visit the Silk Market instead for shopping.
