can i check in knives on a domestic flight?

I bought some handmade, small knives are you able to check those in on domestic flights?

As I know, you could take these knives in your checked luggage. However, you shouldn't bring too much. And you are advised to get the permission of the airline. Thus consult your airline in advance.
