About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

LAX > Beijing > Shanghai > LAX

LAX > BJ( by plane) 12/9/2017
BJ> Shanghai (by train) 12/12/2017
Shanghai > LAX (plane) 12/19/2017

Both American citizens with passports.
Do we also need visas? Or is this covered within the no visa, 144-hr rule?

Sorry to tell you that you need to apply for a visa in advance, since the 144-hour free stay is not available in your case.
