About:Embassy of Saudi Arabia in China

I am going to Shenzhen in early december and would like to go to Hongkong and Macau on a day trip.

Is it possible or do I have to spend a night in both places.

It is impossible to do a day trip to both Hong Kong and Macau. There are so much to see in these places. If you have only one day, you may consider going to Hong Kong or Macau. In my opinion, at least two days are needed for Hong Kong visit and one day for Macau.
