About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Tibet from Kathmandu

Hi I'll be travelling to Kathmandu in December and before there i will be flying to Lhasa, travelling for a week in Tibet then returning to Kathmandu. I will then leave Kathmandu to Europe before flying back to Beijing for a 3 day stop over before flying back to Australia. I have been told that i should apply for a China entry permit until i arrive in Kathmandu? Is this correct? If so how do i apply for a visa for the return to Beijing from Europe

Hi, if your total layover time in Beijing is no more than 72 hours, you are eligible for 72 hr free transit in there, you need to apply for a single entry tourist L type for Lhasa. First, prepare your passport and copy of its data page, the application form, a passport-style photo, valid visa, round trip air tickets and hotel reservation. Next, submit the application to Chinese embassy or consulate.

Flying to Lhasa will also require a separate Tibet Travel Permit which will take weeks to prepare in addition to your Chinese visa. Under Chinese law, you must be escorted by a tour guide when in Tibet at all times.
