About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

Which visas for a Journey Longer than 6 days?

My partner and I are from the UK and are arriving in Shanghai for 3 nights staying in a hotel, then onto a cruise, then onto Japan, Korea and to Hong Kong after 8 days therefore passing the 144 hour 6 day visa limit. Because of this which visas do we need for this trip and where will we get them from please?

Well, in your case, the 144-hour free stay is not available. You are suggested to apply for a tourist L or transit G visa before you leave from your country.

But we only stay in SH for 3 nights then onto the cruise which would be under the 6 days free visa as I thought we didn't need a visa for Hong Kong as we come from the UK? We arrive in Hong Kong a few days later by cruise and leave the same day.

Hi there, so I've been looking into how to get a 144 hour free visa and I can't find any information other than the airline has to apply with our information to boarder control in SH and get a letter of confirmation, but Cathay Pacific say they don't do it. Another company said to arrive at the airport and show our itinerary and passport, however someone said that we may get turned back.
Do you know how exactly we get a 144 hour free visa please? I'm so confused.
Thanks

First, you need to tell the airline when boarding, and then they will provide you a card and you need to fill it on the flight. Upon arrival, apply for 144-hour free stay.

Thanks for your reply Chloe, taking in mind what you've said about letting the airline know and getting the card on the plane, how do we apply for the free visa when we get there? What do we do and where do we go to get it? Is it at the airport or somewhere in SH and what is that process?

Don’t worry, the airline will declare your require to the border customs office and provide you with a card (as I said before). When arriving at the airport, you need to take the card to the border customs office at the airport, and they will stamp it. After finishing all other normal procedures, you can leave the airport. Have a nice trip!
