Transit visa with UK passport

Hello, we will arrive in Shanghai via Cruise ship for one day from Japan we then travel on to Keelung and Hong Kong... We plan to apply for the 24-hour visa free policy when we arrive in port. Is this the correct procedure?

Yes. You can apply for the temporary stay permit with your valid passport and tickets upon arrival at the port in Shanghai.
