Flight from LAX to Beijing to Tokyo (round trip is Osaka to Beijing to LAX)

Hi, I am a US Citizen and will be flying to Japan with a layover in Beijing of 5 hours and then flying to Tokyo. On my way back home, I will be departing From Osaka (KIX) to Beijing and then Back to the U.S.

Do I need a tourist L type for China since I will be having a layover on my way to Tokyo and then back to the US? Thank you!
