what do i need to transfer from one flight to another?

Hi! I originally booked flights to Shanghai but plans changed and I added a flight to Hong Kong a couple of hours after I arrive in shanghai. I will need to collect my bags and check in agin. Will I need to apply for a visa?

Imogen, if you will travel like UK-Shanghai(less than 24 hrs)-HK, you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit in Shanghai, no visa will be required then. Nice trip!
