About:Chinese Etiquette

How can I politely ask my Chinese exchange student to improve his table manners?

We are a host family for a private high school and this is the third student we host. Our first was from South Korea and with us for 3 years, our second was from China as is our third. His table manners are embarrassing, he puts his face to his plate on the table and shoves the food in and he makes a lot of noise when eating. I don't want to hurt his feelings but it is drawing so much attention to him and others are starting to talk about him.

Just tell him that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do", and ask him to try to behave as your family members on table. Also you may take some examples how the good table manners will influence one's life. I believe he will make some changes.
