Use of layover time at Guangzhou airport.

I am a Canadian Citizen with Canadian Passport. On the way from Kathmandu, Nepal to Vancouver, Canada through China Southern Airlines I have a layover time of about 8 hours at Guangzhou. Can I go out with a free transit service and enjoy the city for 3, 4 hours on an organized tour before catching flight? If so how should I proceed?
