entered china with hk re-entry card, can we apply student x once in china retrospectively?

My son holds French Passport and China re-Entry permit, has been accepted by a Chinese university and he used his re-entry card (Entry permit) to enter China without a Student X.Can my son apply his Student X IN CHINA instead of going back to his country? Many thanks.

Hi, your son cannot apply for a new student X type within China. But it's possible for him to convert his current visa to a student X type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. If it can be done, there is no need to leave China. Just try it!
