Visa for Sanya Island, Hainan - one day in port

We are on a cruise to Vietnam, and have ONE DAY in the port of Sanya Island, Hainan. Please advise do we require entry permits to visit?. We both have NZ passports, and the cruise has been booked through a travel agent.
Thank you.

Jude, you are eligible for 24 hr direct transit in there. No need to apply for a visa for that. Nice trip!
