About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Sydney to Beijing via Shanghai

We have tickets from Sydney to Beijing, where we have a 40 hour overlay before we proceed home to Copenhagen. However, we can see there is a stop in Shanghai of 2 hours on the way to Beijing. Are we then forced to go through immigration in Shanghai or can we proceed in AirPort transit and get a 72-hour free transit in Beijing?

You must get a visa in advance, or change your itinerary. When you have two stops in China you are limited to 24 hours direct transit.
